Be Prepared and Take Precautions: Cold Weather Continues To Hit Chicago

Due to the falling temperatures that are continuing to affect the Chicago area, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 4 pm today until Saturday, January 4 at 9 a.m. for blowing and drifting snow with more snow expected on Sunday. Next week, temperatures are expected to hit below zero degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

Given the cold weather, take precautions and watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia. The City of Chicago offers a number of cold weather tips.

If you or someone you know needs immediate help including assistance with getting a vehicle out of a snow bank or assisting with battery jumpstarts, call IIT Public Safety at 312.808.6363.

In addition, the cold weather serves as another reminder to turn off office space heaters when not in use.
