Sonja Petrović, associate professor of applied mathematics, recently taught short courses at two international summer schools.
Petrović taught her course, “The Role of Algebraic Statistics in Estimation and Modeling of Random Graphs and Networks,” at the 2018 Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA) Research School – LatinAmerica: “Commutative Algebra with Applications to Statistic and Coding Theory”in Zacatecas, Mexico, and at Summer School on Algebraic Statistics at the Arctic University of Norway in Tromso, Norway. Her course covered recent developments in one of her research areas. The two schools had the aim of training the next generation of researchers in applied mathematics and statistics, and included several lecturers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Germany, and Norway. Over 150 students participated in the two schools, from various countries in Europe, the Americas, and Japan.
