Help Promote Diversity@IIT

At the Diversity Forums held at IIT in 2011-12, students, faculty, and staff helped the university identify where it can move toward our goal of creating a more open and inclusive climate that is welcoming to new members as well as a comfortable place for all to work and study.

The results from the forums identified three areas that the committee will be looking to address. These include:

  1. Facilitating greater understanding and interaction between (a) international students/faculty, and (b) domestic students/faculty/staff;
  2. Addressing gender issues and stereotypes; and
  3. Building a more respectful environment.

Out of the forums emerged plans to coordinate programming around these three areas university-wide as well as within individual colleges, departments, and administrative units. As examples, programming might include small group discussions over lunch, facilitated conversations at department meetings, outside speakers, educational and cultural programs, and/or interactive theater.

New diversity programs and events will be announced in IIT Today and will be tagged “Diversity@IIT,” allowing users to quickly find upcoming and past diversity-related news.

When you submit an announcement to IIT Today for an event that reflects the values expressed in IIT’s Diversity Statement and is intended to promote diversity at IIT, be sure to check the Diversity Event/Announcement box on the IIT Today submission form.
