Smart Tech Lab Extension — Lighting, Automation, and Cybersecurity Lab Open House

Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 6, 2026, for an Open House event to showcase the new Lighting, Automation, and Cybersecurity Lab—an extension of the Smart Tech Lab (originally funded by several electrical contractors and associates of the Electrical Contractors’ Association of the City of Chicago (ECA) and NECA Student Chapter.

The Smart Tech Lab, new lab, and display rooms initiated and coordinated by professors Jeremy Hajek (College of Computing), and Dan Tomal, PhD (College of Engineering).

Date: Thursday August 6, 2026

Time:

  • 12–1 p.m. (doors open and tours and showings)
  • 1–1:15 p.m. (presentation/Recognize Frank Gurtz, Gurtz Electric Co.)
  • 1:15–2 p.m. (event tours)
  • 2–4 p.m. (professors available for informal tours)

Location

Located in Room 2030 at 3424 S. State Street (South Tech Building). Parking is across the street at State Street and 35th Street. Enter through Illinois Tech Tower and take the elevator to the second floor and cross the walkway to Room 2030.

Light refreshments will be made available. Registration is not required.
