On February 29 a powerful F4 tornado, 200 yards wide and packing 170 mph winds devastated the small city of Harrisburg, Illinois located in downstate Illinois killing seven people. FEMA denied disaster funding to the city stating Harrisburg should receive assistance from local government and community groups to rebuild.
After speaking to city officials as well as community groups on the ground, the victims are in need of True Value and Home Depot gift cards to help rebuild their homes. Walmart and gas gift cards are also being accepted. If you are interested in contributing, contact Lucie Weir in the Graduate College at 312.567.3097 or weir@iit.edu
