Zhe Yi Soo, IIT undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering, was selected for a RISE internship at the University of Freiberg Institute of Thermal Engineering to work on the project, “Determination of Effective Thermal Conductivity of Open-Cell Ceramic Foams.” The application process is very competitive. RISE received more than 2,200 applications for 300 internships during Summer 2014.
RISE is a summer internship program for undergraduate students in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering. RISE offers unique opportunities for bachelor-level students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of two to three months during the summer.
The International Center worked with the Career Management Center reviewing students’ resumes and cover letters, as well as academic departments, advisors and professors who wrote letters and mentored students during the application process.
