On Saturday, April 21, IIT Dining Services will join forces with IIT Spiritual Life and Service Learning to host a dinner for the RTW Vet Center in The Commons as part of The Big Event. The RTW Vet Center is a shelter and community center on the south side (5536 S. King Drive.) The center originally opened to serve meals the veterans in the neighborhood and has grown to a two-facility shelter that also serves 65,000 hot meals to individuals in the Chicago area and many other services.
The goal of the evening is to give these people something they don’t normally have–the chance to go out for dinner somewhere other than the shelter. We will bus the guests to IIT using buses donated by Treasured Tours (IIT shuttle buses) and then back to the shelter after the meal has concluded. IIT Dining Services had donated the meal and will also give the guest a small bag of cookies on their way out. Big Event volunteers will refill beverages and clear tables for our guests. If you would like to volunteer, simply show up at The Commons at 6 pm and dinner will be from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. For more information, email dining@iit.edu.
