Recent Armour College of Engineering graduate Sara Glade (ChE, ‘15, M.S. EnvE ‘15) and Krishna Pagilla, professor of environmental engineering, had their research paper, “Review of Decision-Making Support Tools for Water Treatment Technologies in Developing Countries,” published by the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

In the paper, the team found that through the correct application of Decision-Making Support Tools by people or groups implementing water treatment systems, the rate of failure of these systems can be reduced. The paper was based on research funded through Armour R&D, a Distinctive Education program at Armour College that gives undergraduate students experience working in the lab of a faculty member doing research and development work.

Glade participated in Armour R&D PURE (Program for Undergraduate Research Education) for three semesters, working within the IIT Engineering Theme of Water for two of those semesters. The published paper was based on research Glade and Pagilla completed during the summer of 2014 while working on their PURE project, “Decision-Making Support Tools for Water Treatment in the Developing World: A Critical Review.”
