The Illinois Institute of Technology Men’s Basketball team was well represented in the March 17 announcement of the All-Association of Division III Independents teams. Five Scarlet Hawks were honored: three first teamers, one second teamer, and two third teamers. Illinois Tech also had AD3I’s Rookie of the Year.
Anthony Mosley Jr. and Samuel Rarick were each named to the AD3I First Team, with Mosley Jr. also earning the association’s Rookie of the Year award. Both players were also named USCAA All-American earlier this month.
Mosley Jr. earns first honors after putting together a magnificent first-year season, averaging 19.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 45.1% from the floor. A two-time recipient of the Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week award and the winner of AD3I’s Player of the Month award for January, the Chicago native scored over 20 points in 18 of the team’s 25 games and shot over 40% in 19 of the 25 contests. Between December 30 and February 4, the Whitney Young product tallied nine straight games of 20+ points and a field goal percentage above 40%. He also tallied over five assists three times during that same stretch and nine times over the course of the season. Mosley Jr.’s season high in scoring was 27, a mark he reached on three separate occasions (November 24 vs. Anderson, January 14 vs. Maranatha Baptist, February 2 vs. St. Mary’s).
Rarick, a third-year post player and team captain, ranked second on the Scarlet Hawks in both scoring (17.4 per game) and rebounding (7.0 per game) while leading the team with a shooting percentage of 54.2%. A USCAA Player of the Week Award recipient this season, Rarick reached the 20-point mark in nine of 20 games and scored double-figures in all but three contests. The Chicago native also recorded five double-doubles, shot over 50% 13 times, over 60% eight times, and over 70% twice. His season-high point total of 29 is the highest of any Illinois Tech player this season, which he recorded twice (December 30 vs. Simpson, January 6 vs. Aurora).
Jake Digiorgio earns second team honors after a strong first-year season as the team’s primary power forward. The Michigan native averaged a double-double of 10.9 points and 10.0 rebounds, recording 18 double-doubles on the season. Digiorgio also managed to average 1.1 steals per game and shot 41.8% from the floor.
Jake Bruns and Parker Joncus were both named to the AD3I’s third team. Bruns, a first-year from Villa Park, Ill., was one of AD3I’s top three-point shooters, averaging 7.2 points per game and shooting 43.3% from beyond the arc. Joncus, a first-year from Oregon, averaged 6.7 points as a member of Illinois Tech’s starting lineup, reaching double-figures seven times during the 2015-16 season.
