The Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) announced its 2016 awards on May 4. In addition to six All-Conference selections, Head Coach Kirk Lamitie has also received the season’s Coach of the Year award.
Having been the program’s head coach since its inaugural season in 2014, Lamitie has turned Illinois Tech Women’s Lacrosse into one of the Midwest’s premiere programs. Illinois Tech finished the season with a 13-4 overall and 8-1 MWLC record, placing second in the conference. The 13 wins is eight more than the previous season, while Illinois Tech’s 8-1 conference record is a five-win improvement from 2015. Illinois Tech’s lone MWLC loss this season came at Concordia University-Wisconsin, who finished the season with a perfect 9-0 league record.
“I am humbled by this award,” said Lamitie. “Yet, I feel the reason I am receiving the honor is due to the hard work of our student-athletes who tie up the laces and walk onto the field for Illinois Tech.”
