Armour College of Engineering Professor Hamid Arastoopour Named a National Academy of Inventors Fellow

Hamid Arastoopour, Henry R. Linden Professor of Engineering and director of the Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research, has been elected as a National Academy of Inventors fellow. The NAI Fellows Selection Committee chose Arastoopour because he has “demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society.” The induction ceremony will take place on April 6, 2017.

Arastoopour has made significant contributions to innovation and invention in the areas of particle technology and computational fluid dynamics motivated by energy and sustainability applications. He is the recipient of the Shell Thomas Baron Award in Fluid-Particle Systems, the Donald Q. Kern Award, the PSRI Lectureship Award in Fluidization, the Ernest W. Thiele Award, and the Dow Particle Processing Recognition Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He is also the recipient of the University Excellence in Teaching Award. He holds 14 U.S. patents and has published two books, six book chapters, and more than 130 articles. He has served on the editorial boards of the journals Powder Technology and Fluid. He is a fellow of AIChE.
