As a result of Sara Hassell‘s strong performances in Illinois Tech’s three Women’s Volleyball matches from September 18-25, the Ohio native has earned Player of the Week honors from both the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and the Association of Division III Independents.
Hassell’s numbers from the week stand out, as she tallied 56 kills, 5.6 kills per set, 33 digs, five aces, and six blocks over the three matches. The outside hitter had at least 15 kills in each of the three matches, including a 23 kill/20 dig performance against Maranatha Baptist on September 23. She also hit .275% and collected 18 kills in a win over Mount Mary on September 21.
The two honors are Hassell’s first weekly awards of her young and bright collegiate career. As of press time, Hassell leads the Scarlet Hawks with 197 kills, 3.52 kills per set, and 22 service aces over the team’s 15 matches.
