Who says you can't have a good time cleaning the beach?
More than 30 IIT students, faculty, and staff teamed up with the IIT Engineering Themes Student Council, Engineers for a Sustainable World, and the Alliance for the Great Lakes to clean the 31st Street Beach in Chicago.
Led by Dean of Engineering Natacha DePaola and Associate Professor Paul Anderson, the team combed the beach for litter, tested the Lake Michigan water for contaminants, and collected data. The group was also joined by a representative from the local alderman’s office who spread awareness about the importance of this valuable, local ecosystem.
