Lewis College of Human Sciences Professor of Sociology Ullica Segerstrale Speaks at Rome Future of Education Conference

Lewis College of Human Sciences Professor of Sociology Ullica Segerstrale recently presented an invited paper at “The Future of Education” in Rome, an international conference organized by the World Academy of Art and Science, the World University Consortium, and Roma Tre University. The conference addressed the mismatch between current higher education and the actual competencies and skills desired by future employers. Segerstrale’s invited paper was entitled “The Teacher as Catalyst: Skills Development and Self Discovery in Group Contexts.” She described her own teaching experiments as well as Illinois Tech’s Interprofessional Projects Program as directly aimed at developing a broad base of student competencies. She also served as chair for the session Innovation, Creativity, and Technology. Segerstrale is the recipient of Illinois Tech’s 2017 Trustees Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching.
