You are invited to participate in a research study about self-advocacy skills at the start of the upcoming spring semester.  This study is designed to help students with disabilities brainstorm solutions for challenges resulting from self-advocacy needs concerning the following topics:

  1. Getting to know yourself and your disability
  2. Understanding your legal rights
  3. Improving your self-advocacy skills in college and future careers

Sessions will start in February 2019 and will take place once a week for a total of six weeks.  The final schedule and location will be provided as soon as recruitment is finished. Each session will be 90 minutes long. Food and beverages will be provided.

You will also be asked to complete a survey at the beginning, end, and one-month after the study is over. You will be paid a total of $45 over the course of the semester upon completion of the surveys.

To be eligible to participate, you must:

  • Be a college student who is 18 years or older
  • Have a diagnosed disability OR personally identify as having a disability that impedes your ability to pursue educational or career goals
  • Have a desire to improve your self-advocacy skills for challenges involving your disability
  • Not have been a participant in similar self-advocacy workshops conducted in spring 2018

If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact Katherine Nieweglowski at 312.567.3936 or knieweg1@iit.edu.

Thank you!
