The IIT Honors Medical Society cordially invites you to this semester’s guest speaker event with James Solomon, a United States Navy pediatric anesthesiologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He has been asked by the Navy to gauge interest among Chicago-area undergraduate premedical societies on the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), which is akin to ROTC for medical school. The HPSP program covers the entire cost of medical school, including living expenses and books, in exchange for a period of military services as a physician after graduation. It also provides a $20,000 bonus just for signing up!
This speaker event will be held on Thursday, November 8 from 12:50 – 1:45 pm in LS 240. Lunch will be provided.
Practicing medicine in the Navy offers many opportunities not found elsewhere, including flight surgery, undersea medicine, and medicine in austere environments. Solomon will be presenting on the financial incentives of the HPSP program and the unique opportunities offered by Navy medicine, and will be sharing some of his own personal experiences in Navy humanitarian medical missions.
To hear more about the details of this program and Solomon’s experiences as a physician, or if you have any general questions about medicine that you want a professional like James Solomon to answer, please plan to attend.
