ROCK ISLAND, Ill.—The Illinois Tech men’s tennis team hit the road on Friday for a match at Augustana College in the quad cities. The Scarlet Hawks (5-6) were downed by the Vikings (9-3) by a score of 7-2.
How It Happened
- In doubles, the Scarlet Hawks were successful, winning two out of the three pairings. Pol de Santiago and Franklin Zhong won 8-6 in the #1 spot, while Yousef Abdo and Adam Laitinen were 8-4 victors out of the #2 slot. Davis Housman and Brody Croonquist dropped a close 8-5 match in #3.
- The Scarlet Hawks suffered some close defeats in the singles portion of the evening that swung the match in the Vikings’ favor. Playing out of the #1 spot, de Santiago dropped his match 1-6, 6-7 (4) by way of a tie-breaker.
- Also needing tie-breakers and an additional third game were Abdo in the #2 spot and Laitinen in the third placement. Abdo fell 6-7 (3), 6-4, 0-1 (9), while Laitinen was downed 7-3, 4-6, 0-1 (8).
