WAUKESHA, Wis.—The Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) announced its all-conference honors on Friday. Five Scarlet Hawks were honored by the league: Shanie Scoles (First Team and Attacker of the Year), Alyssa DeLuca (First Team), Jennifer Young (First Team), Madison Meredith (Second Team), and Mallory Tognetti (All-Sportsmanship).
Shanie Scoles has had an incredible season, ranking second in the MWLC in goals (77), 10th in assists (16), second in points (93), five in draw controls (84), and fourth in shots (138). The sophomore had multiple goals scored in 13 of her 15 matches this season, a hat trick in 12 of her 15, and a season-high nine goals three different times. She also had two matches with over 10 points, two matches with 10 draw controls, and multiple caused turnovers in seven of the 15 matches.
Tech’s all-time leader in goals with 219, Alyssa DeLuca has had an awesome 2019 campaign herself. Second on the team with 45 goals, the senior has also tallied 11 assists, 52 ground balls, 32 draw controls, and 44 caused turnovers. He caused turnover mark led the team and ranked in a tie for ninth in the conference. Her best work of the season may have come in a 13-6 win over Augsburg on April 7, when she tallied a hat trick with six ground balls and seven caused turnovers. She also had a season-high six goals (March 30 at Benedictine), multiple assists three different times, three matches with six ground balls, and two matches with seven caused turnovers.
Jennifer Young has anchored the Tech’s defense all season. The senior has totaled eight goals, two assists, 46 ground balls, and 27 caused turnovers in just 13 matches played. She tallied a season-high seven caused turnovers, one goal, and one assist on March 27 against Aurora in one of her best matches of the season. In addition, she recorded a caused turnover in 11 of her 13 matches, recording three or more CT’s five different times. The Kansas native also had two game with multiple goals scored.
Another senior, Madison Meredith, once again posted great numbers for the Scarlet Hawks. The Texas native ranked sixth in the MWLC with 23 assists while also scoring 35 goals and winning 36 draw controls. She scored in 13 of the 14 matches she played in, with 10 of those including multiple scores. On March 23 against Marian, she had one of her best matches of the season with a four-goal, four assist performance. She also had four matches with at least four draw controls, including a season-high six against Aurora on March 27.
Mallory Tognetti, one of Tech’s three captains along with DeLuca and Scoles, has also been a key contributor for Tech both on the field and within the team’s culture. The junior played and started all 15 matches, scoring 12 goals, tallying eight assists, scooping up 31 ground balls, and causing 15 turnovers.
Tech competes in the semifinals of the MWLC Tournament tomorrow against Aurora at 2 p.m. at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Live stats, video, and audio will be available.
