Ted Howell Named Google Cloud Academic All-District® First Team

OFFICIAL CoSIDA RELEASE

GREENWOOD, Ind.—Illinois Tech baseball’s Ted Howell received a very prestigious award this past Thursday, as the junior first baseman was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® team. Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

A Colorado native, Howell has had a terrific season for the Scarlet Hawks and an impressive junior year at Illinois Tech. On the field, Tech’s primary first baseman leads the team in home runs with eight while also driving in 28 runs. He sports a .313 batting average, .383 on-base percentage, .636 slugging percentage, and a 1.019 on-base plus slugging. One of his eight home runs came in walk-off fashion against Wisconsin Lutheran College on April 15. He has also committed just four errors in over 200 total chances.

Off the field, Howell sports a perfect grade point average while pursuing a master’s degree in both mechanical and aerospace engineering despite it being just his junior year. The five-time Dean’s List recipient also serves as a lab assistant at Illinois Tech and has held a leadership position in Delta Tau Fraternity every semester. In addition Howell has worked on projects such as making a portable nebulizer for delivering asthma medication and designing a product that chills a room temperature beverage to ice cold in 30 seconds.

After being named All-District, Howell will now have a chance to be named Google Cloud Academic All-America®. First, second, and third team honorees will be announced in June.
