CHICAGO–After earning All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) honors last week, it turns out Michael Courtney was not done gathering awards this month. On Thursday, the sophomore outfielder was named Third Team All-Midwest Region by d3baseball.com, one of 14 NACC players to earn the distinction.
After playing some infield early in the season, Courtney settled into a role in right field and took off. The Lyons Township product saw an increase in his power output this season, slugging .551% to supplement a .391 batting average and .433 on-base percentage. He doubled 14 times, hit three home runs, drove in 32 runs, and stole 12 bases. Courtney had four games with four hits, seven games with at least three hits, and 20 multi-hit games out of 40 games played. His 61 hits led the team.
Illinois Tech baseball finished the season qualifying for the NACC tournament despite being in its first season in the conference. The team finished with an 18-23 overall record.
