Illinois Tech Athletic Director Joe Hakes announced the suspension of baseball as a varsity sport for the 2015-2016 academic year, following an investigation of reports of hazing and other violations of the student code of conduct.
“It is important that our students, their parents, and all members of the Illinois Tech community, including our alumni, know that we will not tolerate activities and behavior that are intended to embarrass, humiliate, or abuse any individual in the name of team bonding,” says Hakes.
At this time, plans are to reinstate baseball as a varsity sport for the 2016-17 season, contingent upon the findings of an internal investigation.
