Beginning the week of Monday, September 16, 2013, work to restore the exterior structural steel on Perlstein Hall and the Engineering 1 Building will begin. Construction fencing will be placed around the buildings to separate the work area from the public, while entrances and exits will remain open for use. Preparation of the steel for painting will be done at night and the application of new paint and caulk will be done during the day.
The project will be completed by early December. This is a long-awaited improvement in campus appearance and will serve to protect the architectural legacy of IIT. It is the beginning of a multi-year plan that will address other academic buildings in future fiscal years.
