IIT Institute of Design will host a new, hands-on event called BarnRaise which will take place October 13-15, 2014. BarnRaise is a two-and-a-half day make-a-thon that networks creative hubs in Chicago to rally around one social problem: urban safety. This event is planned and designed by a team of Institute of Design graduate students.

Over the course of 60 hours, students will get the chance to bring out newly-sharpened design tools and create innovative solutions to address problems. Students who participate in BarnRaise will work on multidisciplinary teams led by firms such as gravitytank, Conifer Research, or Moment, and help design solutions for organizations such as Friends of the Park, Gensler, United Way, the Metropolitan Tenants Organization and more. As the final bell rings, teams will gather to share their ideas in a public exhibit.

In addition, IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law Distinguished Professor Lori Andrews, Charles Adler (founder of Kickstarter), Komal Kirtikar (Director of Trust & Safety at Lyft) and Matthew Manos (Founder of very nice) will also speak during the event.

Space is limited on the design teams. Current IIT graduate students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a reduced ticket price of $140.
