Training sessions for February:
Understanding Our College Students and Their Families
Thursday, February 14 from 3–4:30 p.m.
John T. Rettaliata Engineering Building, Room 121
When talking with colleagues who work with college students, we often hear the expression that while we get older, our students get younger. We also have noticed an emerging trend that our family members are more engaged with their students’ academic experience. This presentation is to help faculty and staff members better understand the current generation of college students and their families. In this presentation we will discuss theories relating to our college students, understanding first-generation college students, best practices, and how to work with students’ family members.
Mental Health 101
Thursday, February 21 from 3 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
John T. Rettaliata Engineering Building, Room 124
Mental health issues on college campuses continue to increase across the country. This workshop will provide you with information regarding the most common mental health issues college students face today and how those issues may manifest in student behavior. The workshop will review strategies to help you respond to a student in distress and will outline university and Student Health and Wellness response protocols to streamline access for a student to professional services and provide you with an understanding of how to respond to a student in distress or crisis.
