Dear Illinois Tech Community Members,
Martin Luther King Jr. Day serves as a powerful reminder to reaffirm our commitment to Dr. King’s enduring vision of equality and justice. His extraordinary leadership sparked transformative change, and his legacy continues to inspire collective efforts to build a fairer and more inclusive world.
At Illinois Tech, our mission as an opportunity engine for all reinforces the importance of reflecting on our individual and shared roles in creating a better future. This day allows us to honor the past while envisioning and contributing to a world aligned with Dr. King’s dream.
This year, we are grateful to continue our collaboration with Organic Oneness, commemorating Dr. King with a day of service at DuSable High School on January 19, 2026. (Please note that the location has changed from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School.) I extend my deepest thanks to our students and staff who made last year’s volunteer event a success.
Service locations have been expanded for 2026, and we need 40 volunteers for various activities, including mural painting, assembling blessing bags for the homeless, organizing spaces, and beautifying Chicago Public Schools in Bronzeville. To participate, please register before January 14 using this sign up form.
Let us honor Dr. King’s enduring legacy by dedicating ourselves to service and embracing the principles of kindness, compassion, and shared responsibility that he championed. Together, we can continue to shape a world rooted in justice and equality for all.
Sincerely,
Alicia Bunton
Assistant Vice President, Community Affairs
