Pi day is 3/14/15 this year and pi = 3.1415… So this Pi Day is extra special, because the date is equal to the first five digits of Pi.

Unfortunately, March 14 is a Saturday, so the IIT Math Club will actually mark the occasion on Friday, March 13, 2015. “One could call this ‘Pi — 1/100’ day, if you think about it,” said John Erickson, lecturer in applied mathematics and Math Club adviser.

Math Club members will be in the lobby of the E1 Building between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., serving pie and discussing interesting mathematical facts about Pi. “Food for thought as well as the stomach,” noted Erickson. They will include math club officers Shoaib Khan, Sung Min Choi Hong, Jazz Kalingasan, and Xintong Li.
