Celebrate the National Register Listing of a 1964 Modernist & Brutalist Residence by One of Illinois Tech’s Own on September 27

To our friends at Illinois Tech,

We’re thrilled to announce the listing of the Rockwell House in the National Register of Historic Places. The Rockwell House is an AIA award-winning Modernist and Brutalist glass pavilion residence built in 1964 by H. P. Davis Rockwell (’57), a protege of Mies van der Rohe and Alfred Caldwell.

To celebrate our historic landmark designation, we’re hosting an event on September 27, 2025, at the Rockwell House in partnership with Design Within Reach. Please register for this unforgettable event.

The stewards of the Rockwell House are donating 20% of ticket sales and 20% of proceeds from the event’s silent auction to the Rockwell Visiting Artists fund, a youth arts program set up by H. P. Davis Rockwell in 1997. The remaining resources raised at the event will help support the ongoing preservation and interpretation of the Rockwell House. The current stewards’ comprehensive preservation efforts thus far have earned a Certificate of Rehabilitation by Illinois’s State Historic Preservation Office.

We look forward to celebrating on September 27 with our friends and colleagues from Illinois Tech!
