Chemistry Ph.D. candidate Elahe Moazzen has won a 2018 Ludo Frevel Crystallography Scholarship and will receive $2,500 to assist in the continuation of her crystallographic research. She is one of 10 students awarded this year, selected on a competitive basis by the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) scholarship committee. Moazzen will be pursuing her research project entitled “Lattice Templating and Galvanic Coupling Effects on the Electrochemical Performance of Core/Shell Battery Materials.” Moazzen works in the Segre group in the area of cost-effective, high-capacity alkaline battery research. The ICDD has awarded 201 scholarships since 1991 (made possible by donations from both individuals and corporations). The scholarship honors Ludo K. Frevel (1910–2011), who joined The Dow Chemical Company Spectroscopy Laboratory in 1936 and until retirement, was one of Dow’s top scientists.
