On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Chicago’s departments of Planning & Development and Cultural Affairs & Special Events will host City Civics Day, a free, all-day celebration of community engagement at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd.
Sessions include:
- Vacant land reactivation with artists, developers, and architects
- Community violence intervention strategies
- Food access solutions with local advocates
- Equitable transit–oriented development and the CTA Red Line Extension
- Programming partnerships between the Chicago Public Library and community organizations
- How DCASE brings public art to communities
- Collaborations between CDPH’s Mental Health Centers and local artists
- The City Clerk’s role in government transparency featuring Clerk Anna Valencia
- The role of small business in neighborhood vibrancy

Admission is free. Guests are invited to drop in any time during the day. Lunch will be provided.
