IIT College of Psychology will offer a new course—Development and Evaluation of Training in Organizations—this fall. Because this is a special topics course, it may not be offered again for some time. Interested students should strongly consider enrolling this coming semester.
PSYC455 Development and Evaluation of Training in Organizations
Mondays and Wednesdays, 11:25–12:40 pm
Instructor: Kemp Ellington
Course Description
This course provides an excellent overview of the role of job training in organizational settings. It counts toward the general education social science requirement and should prove useful for students entering a variety of professions in which it is common to need to teach others how to perform job tasks. The goal of this course is to provide the learner with a systems perspective to training in organizations. Through readings, discussions, in-class exercises, and project work, students will learn to identify organizational issues that can be solved using a training intervention and develop appropriate training. The focus of the course will primarily be on knowledge application. Students will learn about the various steps involved in designing a training program, including needs assessment, influence of learner characteristics, transfer of training, and training evaluation. Through project work, students will gain skills in implementing these steps. (Prerequisite: PSYC221 or PSYC301)
