The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has begun construction of the landscaped pedestrian plaza at the northeast corner of 35th Street and State Street. Please see our April 11 Illinois Tech Today posting for more information. Updates for this week and next are below:
- Monday, April 22 through Wednesday, April 24— Demolition will be finished and electrical and sewer work will continue.
- Tuesday, April 23 through Friday, April 26—Concrete will be placed. The plan is to place concrete for the driveway on Wednesday. The sidewalk at the driveway will reopen the following day to pedestrian traffic. The driveway will be reopened to vehicle traffic three days after concrete placement to allow for adequate time to cure.
- During the week of April 29—We will see changes in the pedestrian access patterns as we are able to move pedestrians onto the newly placed sidewalks. Work will shift to focus on the northeast and southeast corners of 35th and State. There will be a temporary sidewalk closure on the east side of State north of 35th to allow work to safely continue. Pedestrians will be rerouted to the west side of State. Please see the general pedestrian plan (below) for State Street. The Chicago Department of Transportation will try to minimize the duration of this closure.
As with all construction, work can be impeded by weather. If there are significant changes to the schedule, we plan to keep you informed via Illinois Tech Today.
