On January 25 and 26, the Department of Social Sciences co-sponsored a two day event with the University of Illinois’ European Union Center at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The conference, titled, “Researching and Teaching the EU: Best Practices and Current Trends in EU Scholarship,” was attended by community college and university faculty from across the Midwest. Keynote speakers included British Consul General Robert Chatterton Dickson and French Consul General Paul Graham, who outlined their governments’ diverging views on EU membership. Professor Patrick Ireland presented lessons learned from his research on migrants in Europe. Associate Chair Rebecca Steffenson helped organize the event and demonstrated the use of online simulation games in the classroom during the teaching roundtable.
