The February Sustainability Forum featuring a discussion on “Human Identity and Environmental Challenges – The Psychology of Sustainability” will be held from 12:30-2 pm on Friday, February 14, 2014 in the Hermann Hall Exposition Center.
The discussion will be led by Tim Kasser, Ph.D., who is a Professor of Psychology at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. He has written numerous scientific articles and book chapters on materialism, values, ecological sustainability, and quality of life, among other topics.
Kasser is also the author of The High Price of Materialism (MIT Press, 2002) and Lucy in the Mind of Lennon (Oxford University Press, 2013). He works extensively with a variety of activist and civil society organizations that protect children from commercialization, that promote ecological sustainability, and that encourage a more “inwardly rich” lifestyle than what is offered by consumerism. A copy of his newest book, The High Price of Materialism, is available now at the IIT Bookstore. It costs $13.95.
RSVP now to secure a spot at this forum. In addition, this is a Campus Life Freshman 15 event. A complimentary catered lunch will be provided (gluten free and vegan options are also available). Email for any questions about this event.
