The Office of Community Affairs and Outreach Programs in partnership with Borderless Studio will present Beyond Closure, a documentary film created by On the Real Film and Borderless which retraces the history of the largest mass school closures in United States’ history highlighting the intertwined issues of inequity, racism, and injustice.

This documentary retraces the history of the largest mass school closures in U.S. history highlighting the intertwined issues of inequity, racism, and injustice. Three closed schools showcase a new pathway—one of a community’s self-determination. Through the voices of community members leading the repurposing of Emmet Till Fine and Performing Arts, St. Mary of the Woods, and Overton Elementary schools, this film reflects on community impact, their setbacks, and wins toward redevelopment.

The film will be screened in the Schulz Auditorium located in Michael Paul Galvin Tower on Thursday, March 13, at 6 p.m., followed by a discussion of the film with Paola Aguirre from Borderless, as well as cast members.
