MILWAUKEE—Michael Ganczar was named the Illinois Tech Male Scarlet Hawk of the Week on Monday, but it turns out that the department award was not the only one Ganczar received this week. Tech’s freshman setter has been honored by the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) as the league’s Student-Athlete of the Week for his play the week of March 11–17, as selected by the league’s sports information directors.
Tech had its best week of the season, going 3-0 with Ganczar steering the ship and earning Tech’s first NACC weekly award this season. The freshman posted a total of 133 assists during the week—an average of 12.09 per set—as the Scarlet Hawks swept Maranatha Baptist and topped both North Park and Concordia Chicago by 3-1 scores. He opened the week with 35 assists against Maranatha, then bumped the total to 47 against North Park before finishing with 51 against Concordia Chicago. He also had seven digs, four kills, a service ace and three block assists during the stretch.
The Scarlet Hawks are back in action on Wednesday against MSOE, who is up to ninth in the latest Division III America Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The 7 p.m. match in the Keating Sports Center will have live audio, video, and stats, with the live audio powered by Illinois Media School.
