IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law third-year students Colette Kopon, Esther Mignanelli, Ryan Moore and David Starshak will represent the law school in the National Moot Court Competition Region 8 tournament on November 9 and 10 at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee.

The National Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the New York City Bar Association, is the nation’s oldest and largest appellate advocacy competition. Fourteen law schools from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana will compete in the Region 8 tournament. The tournament’s top two teams will join 28 teams from 14 other regions for the national finals February 10-13, 2014 in New York.

Colette Kopon and Esther Mignanelli will compete on one team. The other team will comprise students Ryan Moore and David Starshak. All four students represented IIT Chicago-Kent earlier this year in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition.

Team member Colette Kopon earned an undergraduate degree in biological engineering at Cornell University. Team member Esther Mignanelli graduated from Bethel University in Minnesota with a double major in history and political science and a minor in philosophy.

Team member Ryan Moore earned an undergraduate degree in English with a minor in psychology at Marquette University. David Starshak graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor of science degree in political science and a minor in leadership studies.

In 2008 and 2009, IIT Chicago-Kent became the first law school in more than 30 years to win back-to-back national championships in the tournament.
