A new IIT Wellness Program has been announced with the slogan “Being Well…Every Day in Every Way”
Employee wellness is important because it has positive effects on the individual, the organization, and the individual’s community. A holistic approach to wellness helps us to be healthy overall. Healthy employees think better, feel better, and perform better.
The IIT Wellness Program will focus on physical, emotional, and financial health by providing programs, activities, and information to guide us on our journey to better fitness.
Our first event will help us get the juices flowing. Studies have shown that a sedentary lifestyle can lead to increased health risks such as heart attacks and strokes. Therefore, we are reviving the Climb the Tower stair-climbing event. The actual event will occur in April but you can begin your training now by getting up and moving.
Start training. Physical activity—including walking, bike riding, stair climbing, weight training, and more—counts toward winning prizes. Use the Walking Works website to log your activity and set goals. Go to the website, create a username and password, choose your activity, and record it. You can participate individually or as a team. Walking Works will convert the activity into countable steps for reporting purposes. The recommend goal is 10,000 steps per day. Every two weeks we will tally the total steps and the top two “trainees” will receive a prize. These bi-weekly winners will be announced in IIT Today.
The Climb the Tower training period officially starts on Monday, February 23, 2015. So register at the Walking Works website and get moving.
If you are exercising on campus in the Fitness Center on the sixth floor of IIT Tower, a member of the Athletics staff will be available during select times starting Monday, February 16 to help you use the equipment. Please see below for their availability:
