Reminders from the International Center:
The following reminders are for all international students, as the semester begins:
Class/Course Registrations:
You must maintain your F-1 status throughout the entire semester. This means that you must be enrolled in classes full-time and you should not drop below full-time enrollment without permission from the International Center.
Bachelor and Chicago-Kent College of Law students: 12 credit hours
Graduate students: nine credit hours
Graduate students with a TA/RA position: six credit hours
Add/Drop Deadline:
The add/drop deadline is Friday September 1. You must be enrolled in full-time classes by this date. The International Center must report your enrollment information to the Department of Homeland Security each semester, therefore registration is mandatory and important. You can meet with your academic advisor and also the International Center if you have questions.
Exceptions to Class/Course Registrations:
International students are permitted to take one online class, equaling up to three credits each semester to count towards their full-time enrollment. If you only have one class left to take to graduate, that class must be taken as an in-class, traditional course to be in compliance with legal guidelines governing your F-1 status. You may take other online classes after your full-time enrollment requirements have been met.
If you qualify for a Reduced Course Load, please go over the requirements and meet with an advisor at the International Center by Friday, September 1
CPT (Curricular Practical Training) Applications:
Per the deadlines listed on Career Services’ website, all full-time Co-Op applications must reach the International Center by Friday, September 1 at 5 p.m. There is a two-week processing period for your I-20 after we receive your application.
Please let us know if you have any questions and feel free to come for walk-in advising.
