The Illinois Tech Men’s Soccer team has earned a weekly honor from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Kern received the USCAA’s Goalkeeper of the Week award for action from September 18-25.
The Scarlet Hawks played just one match over the past week, but Kern was one of the biggest reasons for the double-overtime victory. He faced eight shots on goal, recording seven saves in the team’s 2-1 win over a tough Saint Mary’s (Minnesota) opponent. Two of his three saves came in the second overtime period, enabling Illinois Tech’s opportunities for the golden goal. He was the male recipient of the Scarlet Hawk of the Week award yesterday.
Kern has been outstanding in net all season for the Scarlet Hawks. The Johnsburg, Illinois, native has a 3-2 record in six matches (five starts) while allowing just five goals (0.89 gaa) and recording an .800 save percentage.
