CHICAGO—The Illinois Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams announce their 2019-20 schedules. This year’s slate includes 16 total dates of official competition, five home meets at Keating Sports Center’s Ekco Pool, and the Liberal Arts Championships in February 2020.
After hosting the annual alumni exhibition meet on Homecoming Saturday (September 21), the season begins for the Scarlet Hawks with two home duals. Tech will host UW-Whitewater in the season opener on Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m. before welcoming St. Ambrose at the same time and place one week later. The Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose return the travel this year after Tech swam at SAU a season ago.
November sees the Scarlet Hawks swim entirely away from home. After opening the months with duals at Loras (November 2) and Kalamazoo (November 9), Tech will swim in a double dual at Carthage with the hosts and Illinois Wesleyan. This will mark the fifth straight season the three schools have met for a double dual, as the tradition dates back to the 2015–16 campaign.
At the end of November, the Scarlet Hawks will make the annual trek down Lake Shore Drive to compete in the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic. Tech will compete in the three-day meet from November 22–24, which will serve as a great preparation for championship-style competition.
After one last dual prior to the holidays (at Franklin, December 7), the Scarlet Hawks will travel to Miami, Florida, for winter training from January 3–10, 2020. Awaiting Tech at home will be three straight meets in Ekco Pool: January 11 (North Central), January 18 (Carroll), and January 25 (Lake Forest).
The home-heavy month sets the stage for the Liberal Arts Championships, which will take place at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, this season. The four-day event will run from February 12–15. Tech looks to improve on a strong showing at the 2019 LAC Championship, which saw the women place third out of 11 teams and the men finish second out of eight teams.
Once again, Illinois Tech Athletics will provide live streaming of all home regular season swim meets for the 2019–20 season.
