BLOOMINGTON, Ill.–The Illinois Tech men’s tennis team opened the season against some of the best competition it will face all season on Saturday, traveling to oppose NCAA Division I Illinois State. Tech was defeated 7-0 by the Redbirds in both matches.
How It Happened
- In his first collegiate match, Pol de Santiago was strong against great opponents. He was down 6-4, 6-2 in #1 singles in the first match before being defeated 7-5, 6-1 in #2 singles in the second match. He and Franklin Zhong also dropped doubles 6-4, 6-2.
- Brody Croonquist performed well in #5 singles in the first match, falling 6-3, 6-2.
- Mohammed Shamel saved his best for the second match, dropping in #5 singles 6-3, 6-3.
Stats to Know
Per NCAA Division I rules, doubles contests count as a single point based on the winner of the most doubles sets. Illinois State took the point in both for doubles in matches.
