The Office of Naval Research has selected the proposal “Ground Effect on Wings and Its Control in High Sea States,” led by MMAE Chair Louis Cattafesta (together with Dr. Yang Zhang at Illinois Tech, professor Rajat Mittal from Johns Hopkins, professor Cecilia Huertas Cerdeira from the University of Maryland, and professor Frank Lagor from the University of Virginia) for a 5-year, nearly $4 million grant awarded under the Fundamental Research Towards Expeditionary Air Warfare & Weapons, Topic 3: Lifting body dynamics under the influence of 2- & 3-D unsteady ground effect. This highly sought-after grant received a large number of quality submissions. The winning proposal was considered “the most comprehensive and having the highest potential for contributing to the Navy’s need.” Congratulations to Professor Cattafesta and his team!
