There are now three self-contained and self-powered LED streetlight units at the north end of D5 parking lot to provide safety lighting along 34th Street, a previously dark area between State Street Village and the Greek Quad and near the 34th Street CTA entrance. Each is powered by wind and solar energy which is stored in batteries contained within each pole and are outfitted with communications antennae which communicate from one unit to the other. The units can also be remotely set to adjusted brightness levels.
