Over the weekend the U.S. government announced security concerns with Java, a programming language and computing platform that is the underlying technology for many web-based utilities and business applications. Users access Java programs through modules, or plug-ins, that run Java software on top of browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox.
There are many systems at IIT that depend on Java technology. Although some news outlets have recommended that users disable Java on their personal computers, OTS urges IIT users not to do so. Without Java your ability to use systems such as INB and some myIIT tools will be severely limited.
OTS has installed the most recent Java patch and continues to monitor university systems closely. OTS trusts that Oracle will address the security problems with its Java software and is committed to installing the latest patches as they become available.
