Lewis College of Human Sciences Associate Professor of History Marie Hicks will host a Paperback Release Party for her 2017 book Programmed Inequality on Thursday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Women and Children First, Chicago’s oldest feminist bookstore.
Hicks will be joined by feminist filmmakers and writers Julie Keck and Jessica King for a lively conversation. In Programmed Inequality, Hicks explains why, even today, having technical skill is not enough to ensure women will rise to the top in science and technology fields. Hicks shows how the disappearance of women from computing had grave macroeconomic consequences for Britain and why the United States risks repeating those errors in the twenty-first century.
