Dear Illinois Tech Community Members,
Illinois Tech recognizes the importance of safety and is committed to providing a safe and healthy campus for all our faculty, staff, students, visitors, and contractors.
Safety is an integral part of campus life and no phase of operation is considered more important than the safety of our community. Safety not only prevents injuries to people, it contributes to the success of Illinois Tech. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
We ask that you please take the time to complete Illinois Tech’s required Safety Orientation training. You can access, via Canvas, the six modules for Safety Orientation. The Illinois Tech community must complete this training by January 20. All faculty and staff have access to Canvas via the Illinois Tech portal (portal.iit.edu).
Please note that university leadership at all levels will be required to complete all six e-learning modules.
The modules vary in length, and because there are six in total, we are providing ample time to complete the training between now and January 20.
The module topics are as follows:
- Module 1: Safety at Illinois Tech
The topics discussed will give you a general awareness of safety protocols and typical hazards at the university. This module describes integrated safety management, the hierarchy of controls, the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, and related university safety committees. - Module 2: General Safety and Transportation
This module discusses safe travel around campus, concealed carry on campus, and the university’s policy on the unlawful use, possession, and manufacturing of drugs and alcohol. - Module 3: Emergency Situations and Access
This module will help you recognize basic strategies to handle an emergency situation and become familiar with the Campus Emergency Guide. - Module 4: Hazardous Areas
This module will help you recognize hazardous areas at Illinois Tech. - Module 5: Special Operations
This module focuses on special operations related to safety at Illinois Tech. After taking this module, you will be aware of the importance of safety reviews, proper safety attire, and training procedures for safety equipment. - Module 6: Asbestos, Lead, and Mold
This module will help you understand how to identify, address, and prevent exposure to asbestos, lead, and mold.
After completing all six e-learning modules, please fill out the Feedback Survey to share your thoughts and opinions about the e-learning modules and our safety journey so far. Your feedback and engagement in this work are important to us.
We look forward to furthering our learning commitment toward safety, which will help us continue to build a safer community at Illinois Tech.
We appreciate your engagement and compliance with completing the six modules as soon as possible and no later than January 20.
Thank you for your participation.
