S.Y. Chen, director of the professional master of health physics program, served as co-chair of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurement (NCRP) 49th Annual Meeting, held on March 11-13 in Bethesda, Md.
The meeting, dedicated to the Japanese people affected by Fukushima, was titled “Radiation Dose and the Impacts on Exposed Populations.” It included discussions about past and present exposed populations, including atomic-bomb survivors, medical patients/caregivers, public populations exposed to routine operations and accidents at nuclear facilities, individuals exposed occupationally in industrial energy work, and veterans exposed during nuclear testing. All talks were given by leading experts in each particular area and attendees could watch live or by webinar.
Chen named the meeting a “resounding success” and noted that many of his students attended the webinar sessions of various talks.
