IIT community members are encouraged to share the below invitation with any Chicago-area colleagues who may wish to host high school students for a Job Shadow Day
On Monday, February 20 (Presidents’ Day), you are invited to volunteer 3 hours and a lunchtime (10 am – 2 pm) to host a small group of high school students for a Job Shadow Day at your worksite!
Organized by Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Boeing Scholars Academy*, Job Shadow Day is a structured worksite experience intended to help the IIT Boeing Scholars, a diverse group of high-achieving juniors and seniors from Chicago-area high schools, identify possible career interests by providing them with the opportunity to explore a range of professions, industries, and organizations.
Exposure to careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics; our program’s focus areas) is preferred but not required.
Additional details and our Registration Form for prospective hosts are online here. If interested in hosting a small group of Scholars, we ask that you submit the Registration Form and other requested information by 5 pm on Monday, February 6.
Contact Marya Spont, program director for the IIT Boeing Scholars Academy, at spont@iit.edu or 312.567.5193, with any questions.
*The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Boeing Scholars Academy is a free, year-round academic enrichment program that enables access and exposure to STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)—as well as architecture, business, and psychology—for high-achieving juniors and seniors from Chicago-area high schools. Of the 94 students in our 2011-12 cohort, 54% are from a population underrepresented in STEM fields, 53% are female, 36% are first-generation college, and 77% attend a Chicago Public School or affiliated charter. Founded in 2011, the IIT Boeing Scholars Academy is supported by a generous grant from the Boeing Company. .
