The Department of Social Sciences is offering a new course by Christopher Deis this fall: PS 285-01—Social Science and Science Fiction.
The course examines the political and social commentaries present in the genre known as science fiction using science fiction film and television series as a means of critically engaging fundamental social and political questions about race, class, gender, technology, the environment and other related matters. Some of the films and TV series to be discussed include Star Wars, Star Trek, Terminator, District 9, Wall-E, Moon, Blade Runner, Robocop, Judge Dredd, and Avatar.
PS 285-01 will be offered Fridays from 1:50 to 4:30 pm.
