Wendy Parker of Durham University will deliver the lecture, “Getting Clear about Transparency in Science:” Calls for increased transparency in science are common today. But what is transparency? How transparent should science be? Parker will distinguish two types of transparency and argue that there may be no optimal level of transparency in science, given the different goals that transparency is meant to serve. Recent debates about transparency in climate science and in social science research will be discussed.
The lecture will take place in Stuart Building Auditorium at 2:30 pm on Friday, April 4, with refreshments starting at 2 pm.
